How to shoot actors with a digital camera

Is there enough about theater performance photography to write about? Well, I've written a book about it, but that doesn't seem to be enough, since I keep learning new things and having new experiences. I also realized, while walking in the garden with the dogs, that my wife, Celeste, has almost daily written about her passion for dog agility competition in a blog.

I’ve been shooting actors onstage for about 15 years now, and still get that build of excitement when the lights go down at the beginning of a dress rehearsal I’m to photograph. I almost always feel that they are doing the show just for me. Or I pretend it is so.

So here goes. I'll relate our experiences shooting theater, concert, and dance performances, and mull over some technical issues to get the best photos on and off stage. But mostly it's about shooting actors.
